"Schmidt" copper smithy - metal forming
Symbiosis of tradition and modern age
We are specialists
in working with copper and copper alloys; other materials like stainless
steel (niro), aluminium, steel, tin, silver, a diversity of synthetic substances
and foils are also used.
A profound knowledge of all these materials is our basis; apart from that,
we are also familiar with centuries-old methods of working with copper
and brass, some of which have nearly been forgotten.
These special methods can give something very extraordinary to a
workpiece and can make it really different to other fabrics.
Especially in our highly technological time with its mass production there
is a quest for traditionally made products, even if they are more costly
and therefore more expensive.
By using these old methods we can satisfy the wish for individuality;
every workpiece has got its own individual character like, for instance,
a hand-forged vase. Even if a higher number of such vases is made,
they are never identical and can never be compared to machine made
workpieces.
It is our endeavour to combine our knowledge of the traditional art of
copper smithy with modern working methods.
This is how we can make, on the one hand, something
nostalgic-traditional and, on the other hand, something modern-trendy
out of the very same material.
It is our goal to build a bridge between these two extremes.
